OVERVIEW
For years, tool, die and mold makers have relied on EDM to produce tools in hardened steels that were difficult or impossible to machine. As pressure builds to cut lead times and streamline processes, EDM adds an extra step to the metal cutting process to improve overall productivity. So when machining directly into hardened steel, roughing and finishing molds and dies on a machining center in one set-up has become increasingly attractive in terms of efficiency.
High-speed machining technology has progressed rapidly over the last few years and is ready to take on this task using high (30,000) RPM spindles, extremely accurate Horizontally Opposed Linear Motor Servo Drive Systems, high-speed machine controllers and advanced cutting tool coatings. Roku-Roku, a specialty machine tool builder known for making high quality and extremely accurate machines, researched and incorporated all of these technologies into the new larger higher powered (20 HP) Vision 300 model. The Vision 300 is a machining center designed from the ground up for extremely precise, hard steel machining at high spindle speeds and high traverse rates – “high velocity” machining. Here are some of the features that set the Vision 300 apart.
The Roku-Roku Vision 300 is an exceptionally well-built machine tool coupled with the Fanuc 31i-B5 CNC Controller. Roku’s Super PC III optimizes velocity and acceleration/deceleration through the use of a super high-speed processor and AI Contour Control II, High-Speed processing, Nano Smoothing and Look Ahead Block Expansion. The combination of high-speed calculation and read ahead control minimizes geometric errors during high-speed contouring of continuous small motion commands. Super PC III can be set to one of 3 different modes to meet your machining requirements. The Roku-Roku Vision 300 also features Fanuc’s Digital Intelligent Servo System with five-place decimal input and feedback. This combination results in unsurpassed speed and accuracy, even in the most complex, three-dimensional contours consisting of short consecutive line segments or arcs.
