EXTRUDE HONE:

SHAPING THE FUTURE

The importance of an impeccable surface finish cannot be understated. Shaping and finishing is not only a critical stage in the machining process, but a challenging one, given tight timelines, quality standards and complex part architectures.

Scrapping parts during the finishing stage can prove costly, making it critical to find the right combination of tools and technology to suit your application, production capacity and budget. Extrude Hone is a leader in refinement technologies, offering a diverse array of machining solutions that can reach, shape, and perfect even the most complex of surfaces.

Active across industry sectors including aerospace, automotive, energy, medical, heavy industry, precision finishing of machined parts and more, Extrude Hone offers edge blending, shaping and fine-flow tuning surfacing solutions through its engineered processes and state-of-the-art finishing technologies, delivering ultimate added value, and improving productivity and quality.

Extrude Hone’s menu of state-of-the-art technologies is second to none. Choose from among Thermal Deburring (TEM), Electrochemical Machining (ECM), Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM), Microflow and Coolpulse technology to improve your end product…and bottom line.

Thermal Deburring (TEM) utilizes the combustion of methane gas within a pressurized chamber to remove burrs, flashings or hidden contaminants from machined components through an oxidation reaction. TEM is ideal for deburring (removal of material attached to a component as a result of boring, drilling or cutting operations), deflashing (removal of zinc, zamac or aluminum die cast mold flashings) and decontamination (removal of machining particles trapped in hidden areas). The T250, T350 and T450 series machines offer quick, complete and simultaneous removal of internal and external burrs on any machined part.

Electrochemical Machining technology (ECM) is a revolutionary deburring method that finishes the workpiece surfaces by means of anodic metal dissolution, delivering a high level of precision on components that are difficult to manufacture by conventional methods. ECM ideal for contouring/shaping, radiusing, deburring and microstructuring. Extrude Hone’s line of Ecline and Classic ECM machines offers design accuracy, quality and repeatability, improved production and cost savings across the board.

The very inventor of Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM), Extrude Hone leads the industry in polishing and deburring solutions, especially for complex internal shapes and targeted surface challenges. The Extrude Hone AFM process utilizes an abrasive media for polishing and deburring components. The media is applied at high pressure to change the surface characteristics of the machined component. Highly efficient and accurate, AFM is ideal for radiusing, surface stress relief, polishing, geometry optimization and deburring. Individually configurable in designs that can be built to meet any production requirements, Extrude Hone AFM machines can be tailor-made to suit your shop.

Extrude Hone’s Microflow technology is an abrasive flow process designed to deliver precise, consistent results for complex applications under tight tolerances. This innovative technology allows you to finetune flow characteristics through orifices within machined parts, resulting in improved process efficiency, flow consistency, enhanced performance, extended machine life and lower emissions. The Microflow Test’s robust, compact design is scalable to your production requirements and delivers a combination of high precision, reliability, accuracy and ease of use.

Finally, Coolpulse technology by Extrude Hone is an enhanced finishing solution for metal 3D printed parts. Also referred to as Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM), Coolpulse is an ECM technology, however it uses a special pH neutral, environmentally friendly electrolyte, which provides a better and more steady distribution of the electrical field over the workpiece surface and offers a higher material removal rate than traditional ECM. Extrude Hone’s Coolpulse series offers reasonable cost tooling, incredible flexibility, short reaction times, high productivity and low material removal.

From Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, EDM Drill, abrasive waterjet, 2D lasers, 3D lasers and laser tube cutting, laser welding, press brakes, shaping and finishing and more, Spark & Co. offers a vast portfolio of high-performance machines for modern industrial applications.

SPECTRUM Series Abrasive Flow Machining Machine

ONE WAY FLOW

The die & mold industry dedicated machine. With the invention of the Abrasive Flow Machining process, Extrude Hone Corporation developed an entirely new finish machining tool – a plastic, abrasive laden polymer with very special properties that allow it to selectively and controllably abrade surfaces that it flows across. A broad family of these abrasive medias are available to achieve a wide range of results from fine honing to aggressive surface removal.

With standard Abrasive Flow Machining the abrasive media is extruded back and forth through a workpiece. With ONE WAY FLOW Abrasive Flow Machining, the abrasive media flows through the tooling and workpiece in only one direction.
